2.        Guarantee that all LEA organizational decisions, including the negotiation of contracts, be made democratically and locally.

3.        Guarantee that our locally elected leadership will be fully accountable on all matters to the membership.

4.        Be strong, well-informed and unified when asserting our rights as educational professionals while remaining a positive force in promoting and improving public education on behalf of our students.

5.        Be based on mutual respect, equality, cooperation and tolerance, and guarantee that rights of individuals, minorities and groups will always be respected and enforced within the organization.

6.        Guarantee full representation for, and opportunity for participation of, individual members and groups within our organization.

7.        Recognize and fully utilize the skills, expertise and experience of our members as we conduct union activities.

8.        Provide or seek out appropriate training and educational opportunities for our members so all have the knowledge and skills required to fully lead and participate in union activities.

9.        Be a vehicle for identifying, promoting and representing the interests of individual members and groups within our organization through public relations and educational activities in our communities, and legislative and lobbying efforts in our state and nation.

10.        Recognize the need to periodically modify these guiding principles as we continuously evolve as an organization.
